Happier Picnicking

Here's a little Nikki Note for my friends over at Life with Lissy, http://www.lifewithlissy.com/

I can't believe I didn't think of these hints before. When you are having an extended picnic, with people arriving to eat at different times, make a quick and easy ice table. Put a small kiddie pool, a large water proof bag - like an Ikea bag, a small sled, or a heavy garbage bag on the top of a table. Put a 2 to 4 inch layer of ice in the bag. Set dishes that need to remain cold into the ice. Now you don't have to worry about mayonnaise based dishes getting too warm.

My second picnic tip is REALLY simple and easy. To keep flies and other insects off your wonderful picnic fare, lightly lay a sheer curtain over the food after the main crew has gone through the line. The curtain won't hurt the food as it lays on top of it, latecomers can easily lift it to get to the food they want and you can keep an eye on Grandma's famous potato salad to make sure you get another helping before it is gone. Once the picnic is over you can just toss the curtain into the wash with your next load of towels and poof! It will be all clean and ready for your next picnic!

Enjoy the rest of your summer picnics and save a deviled egg for me,
Nikki
